As a parent, we are bombarded daily with marketing campaigns introducing and promoting the latest in video game technology for our children. My son Isiah, has quite a few of the video games on the market. I must admit Nintendo Wii is the first game I actually became intrigued with and played repeatedly.
What attracted me?
A number of things ...
Firstly, the game is family centered, interactive, highly educational, works the mind and body - when you finish playing you feel energized.
Finally, it's the only game that has ever excited and interested me to the point of wondering where that particular type of technology is heading in the future.

Both platforms [DS & Wii] have opened June's and my eyes to things that we can do on the systems - we now have regular tennis matches and bowling tournaments or golf a "quick" 9 holes - The Big Brain Academy is a software title that keeps us on our toes - mostly in fear of getting smoked by the kids.. And when we aren't home - we are able to continue the mayhem on the road with the DS !!
We fought the pressures of buying the system for the kids - for fear of the stereotypical "gaming glaze-over look". When we succumbed to the nagging - we found ourselves as involved with the games (more so the educational ones) as the kids were.

I tried Big Brain Academy at a mall one day. I laughed so hard, trying to unscramble the puzzles on screen. Couldn't believe how much I like the concept of the game.

I was willing to let my children try the Big Brain Academy. I found that it was not only educational but it was extremely entertaining as well! The creation of our Wii Miis was a fun, family affair. We have enjoyed playing the Big Brain Academy, Wii Sports and Wii Play.
As a physician, I have been intrigued to read about the cognitive and physical benefits of the Wii in the elderly. I certainly have encouraged my patients to give it a try. I know many seniors feel it is ?just for the young crowd?, but I know from personal experience that it is something that can be enjoyed by more than one generation at a time.

As a family we love playing all games together. The Wii system and the Big Brain Academy is something the whole family can play together. As a parent, I think it is important that we play with our children in fun and engaging ways and I think the Wii can be a part of this experience. I see the Wii as being something that engages us in amusing and spirited play; it is definitely not a passive experience!
